The Community Supports Hesperus
Many members of the community support Hesperus’ fundraising campaign to help make Phase II a reality. Our campaign is ongoing as we approach organizations and individuals who support affordable housing for seniors in York Region. Donations not only help our capital campaign but can also provide extras beyond operational expenses. Included can be the operation of our van, purchase of shrubs and trees, special events, outings, and materials for crafts. There are a number of ways to show your support:
1) Make a cash donation.
Cheques should be payable to “Hesperus Village”. We also accept VISA and MasterCard.
2) Click on the “Donate Now” button
at the top of this page, using your credit card, and then following the directions.
3) On line, visit “Canada Helps”, click on HESPERUS, and make your donation .
4) Make a pledge.
Many people enjoy the convenience of spreading their gift over several months or years. Some prefer to give us postdated cheques.
Others request we charge their credit card on a monthly basis. For your convenience, please see the “pledge sheet”
at the bottom of this page or give us a call at (905) 764 – 0840.
5) Memorial Gifts
Making a gift or pledge in memory of a relative or friend can be a very appropriate way to celebrate their life.
6) Bequests and Life Insurance
Remembering Hesperus in your will or naming Hesperus the beneficiary in a life insurance policy can be convenient ways of
making a meaningful contribution. Please contact Hesperus for details
Naming Opportunities and Recognition
Hesperus Donor Recognition
Hesperus Village is grateful for the generosity of its many supporters. Each gift is important and will be appropriately acknowledged with agreement of the donor. Recognition will consist of three elements:
- A permanent Donor Recognition Wall will recognize cumulative donations of $5,000 and more since planning started in 2003
- All government grants will be recognized on the Donor Recognition Wall
- Specific naming opportunities on area throughout Hesperus Village will recognize gifts and pledges of $15,000 and over (Not reflecting the actual construction cost of the area named).
All donations will be acknowledged in the Hesperus Village annual report.
Stars Over Hesperus
Ancient Greek astronomers names the planet Venus, as the evening star, Hesperus, and in its morning guise, Aurora. The transition of latter stages of current life culminating in the crossing of the threshold and transforming into new life inspired identification with Hesperus and the striving for continuous personal growth and evolution.
Calling forth the highest levels of generosity individuals may aim for, fundraising volunteers name a rousing giving program STARS OVER HESPERUS. They envisioned a hundred star gifts of $15,000 each. Each star spreading warmth and protective light over an initiative that is true to its names offering fellowship and community in the best spirit of a village caring for its inhabitants and its natural environment.
Reach to the Stars-gifiting levels:
$250,000 and over- a constellation $15,000- a star
$50,000 to $249,999- a galaxy $5,000 to $14,999- a comet
$15,000 to $49,999- a planetary system Up to $4,999- a meteor
Hesperus Naming Opportunities
Naming Policy
- Gifts of $50,000 or more can be recognized by naming a specific area within Hesperus II
- Naming may be done in the name (memory/honour) of the donor of another person
- Hesperus will honour a donor's request to remain anonymous
- Authority to accept/decline any naming proposal rests with the Hesperus board
- Naming opportunities are available to recognize financial contributions only
- The duration of the naming will be the useful life asses (room, apartment, etc)
- Names on apartments will be in the vicinity of the apartment
- Hesperus will be delighted to consider the naming opportunities to recognize the generosity and support of individuals and groups"
